I had a great time teaching West Coast Swing at Vitti's Ballroom in Danbury, CT on Saturday, November 2, 2019. The workshops started at 3:30pm with two beginner classes of West Coast Swing. These two workshops were followed by a break to eat, which was followed by an intermediate class.
During the first beginner classes, I taught the sugar-push, right side pass, and left side pass. In the second beginner class, I taught the whip, the sugar-tuck and the left-tuck. For the last intermediate class, I contracted an easy amalgamation, which was able to be made harder.
The base combination was:
Starter step,
Left pass,
Sugar-push,
Right pass
Free spin
Sugar-push
The more challenging version became:
Rotating starter step,
Spinning left pass,
Sugar-push
Right pass,
Free spin with a leaders turn,
Sugar-push with bump-and-grind styling
I felt that these classes gave a good overview of the basics and the possibilities of what West Coast Swing can become. I was very thankful to be hired as a guest instructor by Deb Linley of Vitti's Ballroom, and I felt lucky to have some of my Norwalk-based students supporting me.
