 Group Tables

Group picture from Boston Tea Party 2013We had about 39 people signed up for our group tables and fortunately, this event had tables. Even though we had to scramble to set the tables up, all worked out before the event's first division. We were very happy to be bringing a large group of dancers from the CT (and FL) area together at a friendly, inclusive environment. It gives people a sense of "home-base" and gives new dancers a way to connect with people they know in a room full of people that they may not know yet.

Best of all, our group tables gives us a powerful cheering section for dancers from our group that choose to enter the Jack & Jills. It is a wonderful feeling to cheer for your friends and hear the cheers of your friends. It's everything that reciprocal-support is about.

 Group Dinner

Group dinner at Boston Tea Party 2013I love when we are able to go to a restaurant for dinner. It gives our community members a chance to have a conversation on a deeper level than just dance. It's where we all become empathetic humans and enjoy what we have in common or learn something new about people with whom we dance with frequency.

Our group dinner is also a necessary break for us dancers who have been dancing, teaching or competing non-stop since the day before. It allows us to take a deep breath and have a real meal instead of just slamming down another PB&J sandwich.

As challenging as it is to organize, the group dinner has become a memorable part of the weekend. I am thankful for all the people who attend and make it special.

I took many pictures of Boston Tea Party 2013. Even though I wasn't able to photograph the prelims for Newcomer and Novice Jack and Jills because I was judging them, I was able to shoot many of the other divisions. I took a break from photographing the Champion's divisions because I wanted to watch them with our group at our group table. As much as I like being up-front and center to photograph, it's fun to cheer with the group.
